Content that has been contributed to public areas of Ancestry sites by users remains the property of the submitter or the original creator, and we are a licensed distributor of such content. Occasionally, a person may feel that content submitted by another user is covered by a copyright that they own or by a copyright of someone other than the submitter, and the content submitted infringes that copyright. Please remember that we are only the distributor of user-supplied content, and the submitter—not Ancestry—is the one who has violated copyright if such a violation has occurred. However, we will respond to substantiated claims of violation.

In compliance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), Ancestry implements notice and takedown procedures that apply to content reported and removed for violating U.S. copyrights. Ancestry, in appropriate circumstances and at our sole discretion, may terminate the accounts of users who have been identified as repeat infringers of any intellectual property rights of others, including copyright. If you are the owner of a copyright or the authorized agent of the copyright owner and have reason to believe that material on Ancestry sites infringes your copyright, you may send us a notice requesting the material be removed. You may prepare and submit this notice online.

You may also send us a notice requesting the material be removed by mail to:
