About New Zealand, Notices of Deceased Estates, 1880-1950

In 1872, the Public Trust Office was created to perform the duties of trustee for New Zealanders in estate matters, since during the early years of the colony, many colonists had left family and trusted friends behind in England. This database contains copies of pages from the New Zealand Gazette that list estates of deceased persons that were administered by the Public Trust Office for the years 1880 to 1928 and 1931 and 1950. The Gazette is the official weekly newspaper of the New Zealand government.

Details found in the records can include the name of the deceased, residence, British or foreign residence (if any), date of the rule or order, estimated estate value, date of death, and remarks.
