About Ontario, Canada, Catholic Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1802-1967

In the 1940s the Institut Généalogique Drouin began microfilming records pertaining to French Canadians throughout French Canada and America. Consequently, this filmed set of records has become known as the Drouin Collection.

The filming of records continued for some areas up through the 1960s. Because only some areas were filmed for these latter years (1940s-60s), few records from these latter years are found in this database.

Areas Included:

The entire Drouin Collection contains vital, notarial, and other miscellaneous records from Quebec, as well as French Catholic parish records from Ontario, Acadia, and the U.S. This database only contains the French Catholic parish records from Ontario.

Record Types:

Most of the records in this collection include baptisms, marriages, and burials. However, several other types of church records are also included. These records may be confirmations, dispensations, censuses, indexes, statements of readmission to the church, etc.

Language of the Records:

The majority of the records are written in French, but some are written in English, Latin, or Italian.

Information contained in this index includes: name of deceased, death date, gender, estimated birth year (calculated from age in years at time of death), birthplace, and Ontario county of death. The database also includes deaths of Ontario residents overseas from 1939-1947, most of whom died in combat in the Second World War.

This database contains miscellaneous French records from French Canada and America filmed by the Institut Généalogique Drouin. Some record types contained in this database includes family genealogies/histories, journals, letters, catalogues, and topographic dictionaries. Most of the records are written in French, but some records may be written in English, Latin, or Italian.

Acadia, Canada, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1757-1946

This database contains Catholic church records and other vital record from Acadia filmed by the Institut Généalogique Drouin. The majority of the records included are baptisms, marriages, and burials, but other record types are also included.
