This collection contains information derived from civilian crew lists filed at the port of Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, Wales, between 1856 and 1914. The crew lists contain personal information about sailors and their records on the ships they manned.

The information from these crew lists could be used to track your ancestor's career as a British merchant sailor. They may answer questions about when your ancestor was at sea, and the jobs they performed during their service.
Collection in context
The original crew lists were created by shipmasters and were filed with the Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen at the Aberystwyth port's Mercantile Marine Office. Data from the crew lists was transcribed by volunteers in coordination with the National Library of Wales.
During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the port of Aberystwyth was the second busiest port in Wales and the town's main employer.
