    In 1847, Port Phillip was a district of New South Wales that would become the state of Victoria in 1851. The official newspaper of the Port Phillip government was first published in 1843 under the name Port Phillip Government Notices. The name of the publication was changed to the Port Phillip Government Gazette in 1844. When Victoria became a state in 1851, the newspaper's name was changed to the Victoria Government Gazette.
