About UK, Household Cavalry Records of Service, 1799-1920

Historical Context

The Household Cavalry is one of the oldest regiments in the British Army, with roots dating back to 1660 during the time of the restoration of King Charles II, when a Royal Mounted Bodyguard was formed in Holland from 80 Royalists. Up until the beginning of World War II, it acted as a heavy cavalry unit and continues to act as the public face of the British army at home and abroad.
