Italian: from the personal name Mino which is a short form of a name formed with the hypocoristic suffix -mino such as Adimino Giacomino Guglielmino etc. Japanese: variously written usually 三野 ‘three fields’ though the actual meaning may be 蓑 ‘straw raincoat’. Rare in Japan.
