It is derived from the German dialect word Habaner for German Hafner ‘potter’. Czech (mainly Habán and Habáň): nickname for an unusually tall person from habán ‘beanpole’. Filipino: from Tagalog haban ‘purple’ often associated with the fine color of ube ‘purple yam’; probably a metonymic occupational name for a grower of purple yam.
