Duford Family History

Duford Name Meaning

Altered form of French Dufort . English: apparently a habitational name from a lost or as yet unidentified place perhaps from Dulford in Broadhembury (Devon) which is named from an unattested Old English word dylfet ‘pit quarry’. It is possible that the name was subsequently confused with French Dufort (compare 1 above). English: probably also a variant of Difford (see Deford ); Defford (Worcestershire) appears as Dufford in some medieval surnames.
