Buller Family History

Buller Name Meaning

English: variant of Bowler . The surname is unlikely to have been derived from Middle English buller(e) ‘maker or publisher of bulls or papal edicts’. It is recorded only in the phrase fals buller ‘publisher of false bulls’. Old French boleor bouleur from which the word was borrowed more generally meant ‘deceiver trickster’ so possibly it also had this sense in Middle English but there is no evidence for it. English (of Norman origin): variant of Bullard . German (also Büller): nickname for a man with a loud voice from an agent derivative of Middle High German büllen ‘to roar to bark’ (of imitative origin).
