German: nickname for a knight who had traveled to Apulia (Italian Puglia). The Pullers were vassals of the Hohenstaufens in the 13th–15th centuries; between 1262 and 1482 their stronghold was the castle of Hohenbourg in Alsace.
Americanized form of German Pfüller Pfuller a variant of Pfuhl.
