German: alternatively a shortened form of Koldenhof a habitational name meaning literally ‘cold farm’ in Mecklenburg, a cognate of Kalthoff. (Standardized form is Kaltenhof, a frequent placename in northern Germany, former East Prussia, also in Bavaria and Württemberg.)
