Your migrations and regions based on communities list a total number of “Ancestry Members.” Members of communities are descendants of a group of common ancestors they all inherited DNA from, even if they no longer live in the same area where those ancestors lived.
Because communities are based on a connection to a group of common ancestors, people in the community often share common history, like migration paths or ancestors who experienced the same event or lived in the same place. (Learn more in section 2 of the white paper.)
Consider your own family’s history. Can you identify forces that kept people together (e.g., geography, culture, or politics)? Do you have cousins you share more than one common ancestor with? As you learn about your DNA matches in your migrations and regions based on communities, you will start to understand the history behind your genetic connection.
