Hi Alexander
Have read all your postings re GOLLAN origins and families and was especially interested in the Clan Chatten info.
My line is descended from Alexander Gollan and Mary McIntosh of Inverness. They married abt 1773 in Inverness.
The children of Alexander and Mary were:
(1) Donald GOLLAN, born 21 Apr 1775 in Dunchea, Inverness, chr 30 Apr 1775 in Dores, Inverness. Donald married Janet MATHIESON on 4 Jan 1800 in Inverness, Inverness.
(2) Alexander GOLLAN, born 22 Aug 1777 in Ruthven, Inverness. Alexander married Isobel FRASER on 20 May 1802 in Inverness, Inverness.
(3) Janet GOLLAN, born 29 Jan 1780 in Ruthven, Inverness, chr 3 Feb 1780 in Dores, Inverness.
(4) Elspit GOLLAN, born 11 Jul 1782 in Ruthven, Inverness, chr 18 Jul 1782 in Dores, Inverness.
(5) Angus GOLLAN, born 1787 in Ruthven, Inverness, chr 25 Aug 1787 in Inverness, Inverness.

My line is descended from their first child (1) Donald, who married Janet MATHIESON on 4 Jan 1800 in Inverness, Inverness.

Issue of Donald and Janet was 6 children:
(A) Margrat GOLLAN, born 1802, chr 5 Jan 1802 in Inverness, Inverness.
(B) Mary GOLLAN, born 1803, chr 7 Dec 1803 in Inverness, Inverness.
(C) Alexander GOLLAN, born 1806, chr 22 May 1806 in Inverness, Inverness.
(D) Jean GOLLAN, born 1808, chr 24 Nov 1808 in Inverness, Inverness.
Jean married John MACQUEEN Esq. (b. Abt 1803) abt 1830 in Inverness. Their daughter Elspeth MACQUEEN emigrated to NZ abt 1860 to care for her nephew Spencer Gollan when his mother Frederica died in childbirth. She married John Davis CANNING on 25 Aug 1868 at Mangatarata Station, NZ.

(E) Donald GOLLAN, born 11 May 1811 in Culloden, Inverness, chr 14 May 1811 in Inverness, Inverness. Donald was an engineer and surveyor. He emigrated to NZ, as part of the NZ Company survey staff, in 1841 on the Clydeside. Donald married Frederica Henderson HORNE (b. 21 Jul 1832, d. 6 Feb 1860) on 27 Apr 1859 in Napier, NZ. In 1851 Donald bought land in Hawkes Bay, NZ and went farming (Mangatarata Station, which eventually covered around 33,350 acres). Donald died on 14 Oct 1887 in Napier, NZ.
His only child was Spencer Herbert GOLLAN (b. NZ 22 Jun 1860, d. London 29 Jan 1934). He was an all round sportsman and famous as the owner of Moifaa who won the Grand National in 1904.

(F) Kenneth GOLLAN, born 11 Feb 1815 in West Lovat, chr 12 Jan 1816 in Kirkhill, Inverness.
Kenneth married Agnes HENDERSON (b. 18 Apr 1820, d. NZ 17 Apr 1881) on 29 Aug 1841 in Abercorn, West Lothian. He was an engineer and bridge builder in Scotland. Emigrated to NZ in 1856 on the Philip Laing, with wife Agnes and seven children. He joined Donald at Mangatarata Station and later farmed his own property. Kenneth died on 14 Oct 1890 in NZ.

I have extensive family trees for the NZ descendants of (E) Donald and (F) Kenneth. But have hit the proverbial brick wall with the ancestors of Alexander Gollan and Mary McIntosh.
Would appreciate any help that you can give.
Finola Gollan
