I have worked on the Partons of Sevier Co. TN since Jan 1976, and there is no known ancestor (with a Parton surname) to my children who is rumored to be Indian. I have them back to born mid 1770s and no Indian along the way.
Your Barnes family was out of Haywood County, NC, before coming to Sevier Co., TN. There may or may not be Cherokee ancestry many generations back on that line. There are great resources for Haywood County, NC. Robert Medford has books out which compare the censuses for Haywood County with marriages. They are great for tracing your family there.
There is a suppossed, but unproven, connection on the Valentine line. William Valentine was born June 19,1827,in
SC. He was the son of William Valentine (Ballentine) and Rebecca Green. William (born 1827), m first Mary Ann Shamblin. Mary Ann was borrn ca 1827 in AL and died ca 1877 in Sevier Co., TN. She is rumored to have been a Cherokee, but her parents Aaron H. Shamblin and Juda Bright lived next door. Aaron H. (Holland?) Samblin was born 1805 to 1810 in
VA or TN. Juda Bright was born May 1815-16 in TN or AL. She died in Sevier Co. TN. It would be my guess that Juda Bright was part Cherokee. Mary Ann is the only child that I have found so far for Aaron Shamblin and Juda Bright.
Aaron Shamblin was the son of John Shamblin and Eleanor. John died ca 1842, Knob Creek, Sevier Co. TN. Eleanor seems to have died there too. John was the son of William Shamblin/Chamblin and Sarah. William's will was 4 Feb 1791,where, I'd have to look up, VA or NC.
William C. Valentine married after Mary Ann Shamblin's death to Nancy Jane Lewis. Nancy Jane had been previously married to Ephram Lewis who was killed in the Civil War at Kingston TN in 1864. I believe that Nancy was orininally a Duggan. I don't have the source of that at my fingertips, but I believe that it is correct.
I would like your rexact information on your Parton connection.
