Say Yes to Question 60
|
Tonight, Tuesday 9th August, is census night in Australia. The census offers a wonderful snapshot of Australian life for future generations and critical information for researching family history.
One question on the census, question 60, will offer the option of having your records available to historians in future years. Answering ‘yes’ will ensure your census information will be kept by The National Archives and made available once the lockdown of 99 years has expired.
Saying ‘no’ or leaving the box unchecked will mean your census form is destroyed once the statistical

data has been collated. The 2011 census will become a valuable historical document and by saying no to question 60, history is effectively destroyed.

Australian Immigration Collection, 1788–1923
|
Our Australian Immigration Collection contains new collections including the NSW Registers of Land Grants and Leases, 1792–1867. This database contains registers of land grants and leases in the colony of New South Wales from 1792 to 1867. Written applications for the grants were required and submitted to the Colonial Secretary.
The NSW Immigration Deposit Journals,

1853–1900 are records of money deposited in the colony by people wanting to sponsor the immigration of someone, usually a family member or someone for specific employment. They contain a wealth of information including name, age, country and place of origin, date of immigration, and more.

If you're one of our many Ancestry.com.au members who has a great family story to tell and would be willing to share it, we'd like to hear from you.
|
|
Send us a brief account, in 150–200 words, of the ancestor you discovered and their personal story.
|
|
Send us your ancestor's full name and all key vital dates available – birth, marriage (when, where, and to whom), children, occupation, etc.
|
|
Include any historical records you've found through your search – birth, marriage, military records, etc.
|
|
Along with any additional mementos you've discovered along the way - photos, medals, awards, etc.
|
|
And lastly, don't forget to include your name, where you are from and your contact details including your phone number and email address.
|
|
