London Wills and Probate, 1525–1858 |
Wills are truly personal documents, often written by your ancestor’s own hand. This new collection of London Wills and Probate from 1525–1858, launched in association with the London Metropolitan Archive, details some of the largest inheritances passed down in the early years of the City of London’s history.
To coincide with this launch we are also allowing free access to the England and Wales National Probate Calendar 1861–1941 until 8th July. Along with telling you where your British ancestors may have died – and revealing the value of the estate they left – it provides a vital link to wills and probate records created in England and Wales during the period. |

Send us a brief account, in 150–200 words, of the ancestor you discovered and their personal story. |

Send us your ancestor's full name and all key vital dates available – birth, marriage (when, where, and to whom), children, occupation, etc. |

Include any historical records you've found through your search – birth, marriage, military records, etc. |
 |
Also include any additional mementos you've discovered along the way – photos, medals, awards, etc. |
 |
And lastly, don't forget to include your name, where you are from and your contact details including your phone number and email address. |
