English: habitational name, probably from Lundsford in East Sussex,
so named from an Old English personal name Lundr?d + Old
English ford ‘ford’, or possibly from Lunsford in Kent,
although this was earlier called Lullesworthe (from the Old
English personal name Lull + worð ‘enclosure’); it is
not certain whether the development to Lunsford took place early
enough to have produced the surname.
