  3. Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Buachalla ‘descendant of Buachaill’, a byname meaning ‘cowherd’, ‘servant’, ‘boy’.
  4. Altered spelling of German Büchler (see Buechler), or of Büchle, a variant of Buechel.
