Helpful Search Tips

  • When searching military records it helps to have as much information as possible, which you may be able to get from family members. As well as full name and date/place of birth, other details like regiment and battalion can be entered in the ‘Keywords’ section above
  • You may get many search results, so go through and check each record to see if the information matches what you know
  • The service and pension records usually contain multiple pages per person, so look for the green arrows to click on to the next page
  • At the bottom of the search page for each collection you can find information about the Source of that collection
  • Defenders of New Zealand (BAB) and Chronicles of the NZEF 1916-1919 (BAB) are browse only collections. Please click on the collections and scroll through the table of contents to search your military hero.
